Pantomime Press Release
The following press release has been issued to local media outlets in order to promote the Pantomime.
Belvoir Players 35th Annual Pantomime “CINDERELLA” by Alan P Frayn
Belvoir Players Studio, Belvoir Drive, Belfast BT8
22nd December 2008 until 3rd January 2009
Belvoir Players celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2008 are having their busiest season to date. Having made over 20 performances, mostly to FULL HOUSES, in theatres throughout the Province during the summer they are currently in rehearsal for CINDERELLA their annual Christmas pantomime.
Adult membership of the group now stands at 75, raging in ages from 16 to 76 years, and is greatly augmented by our flourishing Theatre Academy numbering over 150 in the 5 to 16 year old age groups. The pantomime sees these groups coming together to enjoy the camaraderie and fun of our annual pantomime. After 34 years this has become as traditional a Christmas treat as turkey and ham or even mistletoe and wine.
Since 2000 when we opened our purpose built studio on Belvoir Drive in Castlereagh we have been enjoying growing success in fields theatrical. We have developed the studio to become a “theatre of dreams” for the population of Castlereagh and beyond. Attracting membership from Newtownards and Bangor in the north through Lisburn in the South, Ballyclare in the East and Ballynahinch in the west we offer unique opportunities in supporting the performing arts either through participation or as spectators. Our junior members undertake a summer production in the Studio. In previous years they performed productions of Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Oliver, My Fair Lady and in 2007 these intrepid youngsters performed in three separate productions of versions of Joseph and Grease. 2008 the Academy scaled new heights with an ambitious production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar”. These magnificent performances were rewarded with SOLD OUT notices throughout their five performances.
During the summer period the Belvoir Players are to be found touring the many new and wonderful theatre and arts centres recently opened in all areas of Northern Ireland. In this way the troupe provide home-grown entertainment for the growing number of tourists currently visiting our shores. Newcastle, Co Down, Enniskillen Co Fermanagh, Armagh, Omagh, Cookstown, Strabane, Londonderry, Newtownards and Bangor have all received visits from this merry band of thespians. Support for our efforts has grown throughout the years and now we enjoy such popularity that people have to seek other venues to catch our shows.
